NATIONAL ASSEMBLY AT LA VERNA
The Eastern Cape was well represented at the National Assembly, held at La Verna Retreat Centre, Vanderbijlpark from 29 September-3 October 2017. Maryeen and Christine (CLC: EL); Fatima and Sonia (CLC: Grahamstown); and Colleen, Kaye and Tiksie (CLC: Port Elizabeth) attended. The theme of EXPLORING FAMILY AND CLC yielded deep, fruitful, challenging and honest discussion, from which statements were formulated on the following five issues: Communication, Formation for CLC, Inclusivity, Working with Youth, and CLC Education Support. Details of these statements have been circulated in the Communique.
The Assembly also proved a wonderful opportunity for members from the various regions (Western Cape, Gauteng and Eastern Cape) to meet and get to know one another better. Besides the serious “business” of the Assembly, there was time for informal chats and much fun was had by all at the “CLC Spot the Talent” evening, and the Fun Auction!
Colleen and Kaye had an Assembly Feedback session for all the CLC: PE members, Maryeen and Christine undertook to feedback to CLC: EL members, and Fatima and Sonia to the CLC: Grahamstown members.
HEARTS ON FIRE PROGRAMME
Members of the CLC: PE group have been spiritually enriched by participating in HEARTS ON FIRE- a six-week programme presented in a group context, and designed to deepen the participants’ relationship with God through facilitated Prayer experiences.
RETREAT
Sonia, Fatima, Christine, Maryeen and Tiksie were able to attend the Retreat held at Schoenies, Port Elizabeth from 10-17 November. Grateful thanks to the Retreat Directors, Fr Graham Pugin S.J. and Veronica Miller, and also to Kaye for all her planning and hard work in her role as Retreat Manager.
CONDOLENCES
CLC members were saddened by the news of the tragic death of Rui’s Father-in-Law. While en route to the National Assembly, Rui heard of his father-in-law’s murder in Graaff Reinet. Kaye, Tiksie, and Fatima were able to support Gunda, Rui and the family by attending the funeral. We assure Gunda, Rui and all the family of our continued prayerful support as they come to terms with this tragedy.
FAREWELL, SARAH
CLC Grahamstown bid farewell to Sarah Kityui, who has returned to Kenya after completing her post-Doctoral research at Rhodes University. Sincere thanks to Sarah for her contribution to her CLC group in Grahamstown, and our good wishes go with her as she makes contact with CLC in Kenya.
THANK YOU, VINCENT
After many years of loyal service as CLC Eastern Cape Treasurer/Financial Officer, Vincent decided to resign from this role. We extend our thanks to him for his dedicated approach to this role. The nomination of Margot Brooks (CLC: PE) was accepted and ratified by the EC Regional Committee at the Skype Meeting at the end of October. We wish Margot well as she serves CLC in the role of EC Treasurer/Financial Officer.
CLC Members Abroad for Christmas
We wish Kaye well as she spends Christmas with her family in Wexford, Ireland, and attends her niece’s wedding in Dublin on 28 December.
Our best wishes go to Vincent as he enjoys a month’s holiday with his son, daughter-in-law and grandchildren in England.
