REGIONAL STRUCTURES

At the EC Regional Meeting held in March in Grahamtown, a Regional Executive Committee was elected. Members are:  Kaye Henrick (National Co-ordinator); Rui Krause (Grahamstown); Colleen Callahan (PE: Nazareth Group) and Maryeen Maynard (East London).  Jappi, from Umtata and Monica from Durban will be supported by the Committee, as they endeavour to establish groups in their respective areas.  The newly established committee had their inaugural Skype meeting on Sunday, 28 May.

DSSE

It is always good to meet with our Ecclesiastical Assistant, Fr Graham Pugin S.J.  At the March Regional Meeting, his workshop on the DSSE (Discerning; Sending; Supporting; and Evaluating) process involved in CLC’s Apostolic essence was informative and enlightening. Our meeting with Fr Graham ended with Mass, celebrated in the Chapel of the Assumption Convent in Grahamstown.

EAST LONDON WELCOMES CHRISTINE

CLC: East London welcomes Christine Hobden, who has recently settled in the city, as a result of her work at the University of Fort Hare. Christine may be new to East London, but not new to CLC, as she was a member of CLC in the UK.

 CLC MEMBERS ON THE MOVE

In February, William Dorzie left East London and returned to Ghana with his family. Owen Kimson relocated to Port Elizabeth in April. Tiksie Mabizela is well settled in Port Alfred and has a beautiful new “furbaby”, Champ!  Rui Krause and his family have moved into a new house in Grahamstown, and Astri Oehley moved into her new home in May.

CLC PORT ELIZABETH CELEBRATES WITH THEIR OCTOGENARIANS

CLC groups in Port Elizabeth has a combined gathering on Wednesday, 24 May to honour their octogenarians, all of whom have recently celebrated milestone birthdays: Tiksie in December 2016;  Astri in March; and Lyn and Vincent in May.

MASINYUSANE

Pupils at schools supported by the Masinyusane project continue to be assisted by the donation of toiletries by CLC members in PORT ELIZABETH.  In early March, Colleen visited Seyisi Primary and Ben Sinuka Primary with Jim and Fiks of Masinyusane, and saw first-hand the literacy projects being co-ordinated at these schools with the help of Masinyusane tutors in partnership with the SHINE LITERACY programme.

 HEARTS ON FIRE PROGRAMME

In February and March, Kaye and Colleen travelled to Addo to facilitate part of the HEARTS ON FIRE programme with teachers and care-workers associated with the Marist-Mercy project in Addo and Kirkwood.  The HEARTS ON FIRE sessions proved enriching for all involved.

CLC: PORT ELIZABETH NAZARETH GROWS

Since February, six new members (Muso, Margot, Denise, Sr Bongani, Sr Priscilla and Hedwig) have been journeying with the PE: Nazareth group, and recently completed the 6 Introductory Meetings to CLC. They now continue to discern their commitment to CLC, under the guidance of Colleen (Group Leader) and Kaye (Group Guide) and supported by Lyn and Owen.

AFTERNOON OF PRAYER

“Christ, Our Light” was the theme of an afternoon of prayer hosted by CLC at St Augustine’s Cathedral, Port Elizabeth on Saturday, 27 May. Colleen led the afternoon, assisted by Kaye, and it proved to be a graced time for the twelve people who attended.

NATIONAL ASSEMBLY

The Invitation and Registration Forms for the National Assembly at Laverna Retreat House from 29 September to 3 October, have been sent to all members. The theme of the Assembly is EXPLORING FAMILY AND CLC.  Please be encouraged to send any further comments you may have around issues relating to FAMILY and CLC to Kaye at kayeh@worldonline.co.za

 

 

 

DATES TO DIARISE

Fr Anthony Egan S.J. will be in Grahamstown as from 1 July.  We plan to meet with him and the Grahamstown Group during the afternoon of Saturday, 1 July.

A Regional Meeting for the Feast of St Ignatius is planned for Sunday, 30 July, in EAST LONDON.
