In South Africa CLC is present in three regions: Gauteng, Western Cape, and Eastern Cape. There are active groups in Johannesburg, Katlehong, Cape Town, Port Elizabeth, Makhanda (previously, Grahamstown), and East London. These groups meet weekly or bi-weekly to discern together on their spiritual journeys, following the tradition of Ignatian spirituality. The three pillars of CLC are Community, Spirituality, and Mission. These are carried out at a local, regional and national level.
Some groups are involved in offering Ignatian experiences and spiritual formation to the wider community with days of reflection, retreats, or weeks of guided prayer. Our current shared CLC mission focus is on the provision of education support. CLC members are involved in tutoring, stationery drives, and student spiritual formation.
CLC is a lay organisation founded in the Catholic Church, with pontifical right. The community is open to all who desire to follow Jesus Christ more intimately, working with Him to build a world that is just, merciful, loving and peaceful. Given our shared commitment to the spirituality of St Ignatius of Loyola, we work closely with the Society of Jesus (Jesuits).
